General basic requirements to become a U.S. Naturalized Citizen:

  • The applicant must be 18 years or older if applying through the N-400 form
  • Has been a Permanent Resident for 5 years or more, or married to a US Citizen for 3 years
  • Has been physically present in the US and not left for more than 180 days (6 months) in the last 5 years
  • Have lived in the same district address stated on the N-400 application form for the last 3 months
  • Demonstrate good moral character
  • Show an attachment to the U.S. Constitution
  • Be able to read, write, speak, and understand basic English
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of U.S. civics (history and government)
  • Take the oath of allegiance to the United States
