B-1/B-2: Business and Tourist Visitors
The B-1 visa is for coming to the U.S. for temporary business trips. The B-1 visa is generally used to come to the U.S. to make investments, to purchase goods, or to conduct other temporary work on behalf of a non-U.S. employer. You may not be employed or be paid by a source inside the U.S. The B-2 visa is for tourists who are visiting the U.S. Tourists of some countries may enter the U.S. for up to 90 days without a visa.

E-1/E-2: Treaty Traders/Treaty Investors
E-1 and E-2 visas are available to citizens of those countries which have investor treaties with the U.S. You may be eligible for an E-1 or E-2 visa if you are coming to the U.S. to work for a business 50 percent of which is owned by citizens of your treaty country.

F-1/M-1: Academic and Vocational Students
The F-1 visa allows you to come to the U.S. as a full-time academic or language student if you are enrolled in a program that leads to a degree or to a certificate. You may work in a part-time job on campus. You may be permitted to work off campus if doing so is economically necessary or if your job provides practical training in your chosen field. The M-1 visa is for vocational or other nonacademic students.

H-1B: Specialty Workers and Fashion Models
The H-1B is available to workers in occupations that require specialized knowledge and to distinguished fashion models. Unless you are a fashion model, you need at minimum a bachelor's degree or its equivalent in on-the-job experience. Among other requirements, you must first have a job offer from a U.S. employer for work to be performed in the U.S.

H-2A/H-2B: Temporary Agricultural Workers and other Temporary Laborers
The H-2A visa is for persons who come to the U.S. to perform agricultural labor or services on a temporary or a seasonal basis. The H-2B visa is for temporary workers performing non-agricultural temporary services or labor.

H-3: Temporary Trainees
The H-3 visa is for persons coming to the U.S. for on-the-job training to be provided by U.S. employers. The purpose of the training should be to advance your career in your home country where you plan to return to where similar training opportunities are unavailable.

I: Media Representatives
The I visa is for foreign press, radio, film, and other foreign information media.

J-1: Exchange Visitors
The J-1 visa is for coming to the U.S. to participate in an approved exchange visitor program. There are many such visitor programs, which are sponsored by businesses, schools, and various organizations and institutions. These exchange programs are designed to foster increased international cooperation through the exchange of information. Those persons eligible include scholars, students, professors, research assistants, job trainees, au pairs, international visitors on cultural missions, and others.

K: Fiancé(e) of U.S. Citizen
The K visa is used to enter the U.S. to conclude a valid marriage to a U.S. citizen, which must be accomplished within 90 days of entry.

L-1: Intracompany Transfers

An L-1 visa may make you eligible for permanent residency through employment, without the need for a labor certification.

O-1/O-2/O-3: Extraordinary Ability
The O visa is for persons who have extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, education, business or athletics, which has been demonstrated by sustained national or international acclaim.
